artists statement
As an artist I am conceptually concerned with metaphysics
Intellectually my work is based around philosophy and philosophical concepts, such as
- mind/body problem
- time
- reality
- existence
- consciousness
My paintings are relational, in that they contain 'elements' such as line (or 'verticals') fields and edges
I am also interested in the relationships between viewer and painting, and between the paintings rigid physical support and non-physical content
My paintings question
- what we need as individuals to be happy
- materialism
- our fragility of existence
- individual location
while reflecting a contemporary minimalist sensibility
